Thanks for the link to ChatGPT's study mode. Fifty years ago, some textbooks were designed in what was then called programmed learning. The approach was a text chapter and then a series of questions that led the student through a process that checked comprehension with answers affirmed or redirection of the student through additional text and questions. This evolved to a more sophisticated computer-assisted programmed learning, one early version was PLATO from Control Data Corporation. Still, the technology available was limited. As AI continues to evolve with Generative AI and LLMs we will finally be able to provide personalized learning that adapts fully to the progress of each learner. This will turn the classroom/learning space upside down. That is what Alpha Schools are now testing.
